Executive Director
Message from the Executive Director
In 2022 the Foundation turned twelve and was carrying out its second strategic plan, for 2021–2025. Its two priorities were to consolidate Línea Libre (the Foundation’s helpline for children and young people), so as to bring mental health support to the most neglected parts of the country, and to launch short online courses for professionals in Chile and other Spanish-speaking countries.
The letter recalls that the Foundation was born from the courageous testimony of its founders and highlights three events of the year: the Foundation joined the suicide prevention programme Quédate, became part of the leadership team of Pacto Niñez, the largest civil society network for children in the country, and premiered the documentary Bajo Custodia at the Museum of Memory and Human Rights (Museo de la Memoria).
It was a year to consolidate the budget growth of 2021. The Executive Director attributes those results to partnerships with the State, such as Hablemos de Todo with the National Youth Institute, and with companies, such as the programmes Stand Up, against street harassment, and Brave Together, on anxiety and depression, with L'Oréal.
Executive Director, 2022: Valentina Correa Uribe.
Results and impact
What was done in 2022
Support for victims
Contacts rose 15% compared with 2021. There were 461 psychosocial and 395 legal guidance sessions; the legal ones almost tripled. The mutual support groups, suspended for more than two years because of the pandemic, returned: two were held.
Remote support
The psychological support lines received 27,000 contacts and provided 12,000 effective consultations. Línea Libre served 6,391 children and adolescents. The most frequent reasons were suicidal ideation, violence and interpersonal conflict.
Prevention and education
21,225 people took part in courses, workshops and talks, 300% more than in 2021, according to the FECU. There were four diploma programmes with 113 students and eight long-term partnerships with school communities.
Advocacy
The Foundation joined the board of Pacto Niñez, funded by the European Union, and remained part of CUIDA, the research centre on early adversity, and of Child Helpline International.
How people who received support rated it
In 280 surveys, those who received guidance from the Comprehensive Support Area gave the service an average score of 7 on a scale of 1 to 7. 90.7% gave the highest score when asked whether they would recommend the Foundation to someone close to them, and 93.6% said they had felt welcomed by the person who attended them.
