Mutual support groups

Not having to talk about this alone

La Confianza en Grupo brings together adults who have been victims of sexual violence in a small, stable group accompanied by the Foundation’s professionals. Listening to others who have been through something similar helps to break isolation and to find words for what happened.

How the groups work

Mutual Support Groups (GAMU, from their Spanish initials) are one of the Foundation’s earliest activities, and their method is set out in its own technical model. Each group is a process with a beginning and an end, moving through stages:

Safety and trust

The group gets to know each other, agrees on its rules of care and builds a space where people can speak without being judged.

Account and meaning

Each person shares what they want, when they want. The group works with words and also with creative resources, to separate the person from what was done to them.

Closure and looking ahead

The group closes in a planned way, never abruptly. Those who finish can stay connected through the Foundation’s alumni network.

Before joining

  • There is a prior conversation with the team to understand your situation and see whether the group is right for you at this time.
  • You do not need to have reported or to tell your whole story.
  • What is shared in the group is confidential.
  • The groups are for people aged 18 and over.
  • Ask the team about upcoming groups, the format and the conditions for taking part. The groups are held in Spanish.
